39th Annual Arbor Day

On February 8, 2025 we had an energetic crew attend the 39th Annual Arbor Day event at Maxey Park. Over 300 trees were planted!  Last year’s derecho and Hurricane Beryl destroyed much of the green canopies that once covered many locals parks so the replanting of trees across the city aims to restore these beautiful spaces.

Our amazing group of athletes and families spent the morning as clean up crew after Houston’s annual race.  Organizers for this event request G-Force each year because we have the BEST group of young volunteers!

G-Force families joined the Houston Parks and Recreation Department at Wilson Memorial Park this morning and helped with the planting of over a thousand trees!

G-Force Achieve spent the morning working on trail maintenance at the nature sanctuary by pushing heavy wheelbarrows, shoveling mulch, and raking trails.  Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary is privately owned and managed by Houston Audubon.

Once again, our G-Force Achieve families served as the clean up crew after Houston’s Race for The Cure 

 for the fourth year in a row.  When we all work together, it’s amazing how fast we can get the job done and we may have set a new record!

G-Force Achieve families visited Kids’ Meals to assist with packing lunches for Houston’s hungry children. Did you know that Kids’ Meals distributes over 12,000 meals a day during the summer months?  Check out their organization: https://kidsmealsinc.org/the-problem

G-Force Achieve families join Houston’s Mayor Sylvester Turner and the city’s Parks and Recreation Department for their annual Arbor Day tree planting event. Locations are always different but the mission the same, “making a significant step towards prioritizing meaningful climate action for Houston’s resilient future.”  - Mayor Turner

Plant It Forward Farms is a nonprofit organization that works with independent, professional farmers with refugee backgrounds to grow and distribute fresh produce throughout our community.  G-Force Achieve proudly helped with basic gardening tasks like weeding and mulching, while learning about the impact that urban farming has had in the community.  To learn more, visit: https://plantitforward.farm

Nearly 20 G-Force Achieve athletes and families worked to ensure area elementary and middle school students started their year off on the right foot, by filling backpacks with essential school supplies at the YMCA Operation Backpack. This was an outstanding opportunity for the athletes to work with each other and with a great organization to play an active role in helping others in the community.
